I loved the book. I learned so much about my body. However I did not chart. I used the clearblue easy monitor and preseed and got pregnant in two weeks.

This book helped so much after my miscarriage.

I really liked the book actually and recommend it to all women who are thinking about or just starting to ttc. It is a good base book to read. My doctor recommended it to me and said all women should actually read it. I love the info on the charting BBT. I was a beginner at charting so it helped a lot. I also liked all of the colored pictures it has for demonstrative purposes. It really helped me out. I thought I knew a lot about my body and how to get pregnant but the book let me know I didnt' know it all...LOL!!! Of course if you are someone that has already read a lot of info on ttc and the female anatomy and are a pro at BBT charting then there wouldn't be much need in reading the book. So I do agree with that. It does help you learn ttc terms such as progesterone, luteal phase, ovulation, etc and what they mean. So that was a benefit because I feel like I know what my doctor is telling me now. I guess if you read the book thinking all women's cycles were set in stone then you would be deeply disappointed and stressed about the book. But I feel she did a good job of explaining the "textbook cycle" and then other things that could go on during a cycle. I love the "troubleshooting section" in the back of the book. I definately didn't get the impression that my cycle had to be one way or something was wrong from reading the book. It was very helpful and reassuring to me. I am not sure about the raw eggwhite thing though...LOL!!! But she is a doctor so I am sure it can be done safely. I really really liked this book and will keep recommending it to those just starting out. It answers a lot of questions for those just starting out ttc. However I wouldn't recommend it to someone that has been ttc for a while and has read all the other books out there and is very read on the topic.

I'm with you on the egg whites in the vagina advice. That's gross and NOT SAFE!! Preseed is definitely a better option.

As for the book, I never read it. I used the downloadable manual from www.nfpandmore.org and I also read "Natural Family Planning" by the Kipleys (a book I got at the library). I felt they showed more information that applied to women all over the map instead of the 5 or 6 that "the experts" deem "typical."

If you do not know your bodies much at all (like charting, how to detect ovulation, etc) then that book is good. However if you have been already looking into fertility and such then it is a waste of money. It basically says the same thing that fertilityfriend.com says and you can look around on that site for free and even keep a fertility chart for free on there. I did just borrow that book from a friend and honestly it didn't help me but only because we had been trying for awhile and I knew about our bodies and all that was in the book already. And also remember not every woman is the same so therefore everything the website and book says is not true for each woman. For example...not every woman ovulates on day 14. I ovulated between days 16-19 and I got pregnant and am now 5 months. Also not every women gets the stretchy eggwhite mucous during ovulation. I didn't and still got pregnant. Just a heads up to you not to believe everything whether in a book or on a website or even through a friend. Just try to learn about your bodies and about her individual cycle and it will work out. Good luck!

Yes, it is a very good book. I would suggest it for any woman, not just the ones who are trying. When I got finished reading it I let a friend borrow it and have another friend who is waiting for it.

I cannot recommend this book enough!

Charting a woman's fertility signs is one of the best things a couple can do to try and conceive. It is also one of the best things a woman can do for self-knowledge and her own health. Charting allows a woman (or a couple) to know when she is fertile and when she is not, when she is ovulating, when to expect the next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Charting can be used to ACHEIVE or AVOID pregnancy. Charting can also alert a woman to anything in her cycle which may delay conception or make it difficult to carry a pregnancy. Many difficulities w/ the woman's cycle can be corrected at home. Charting can also let a woman know when a problem might be serious and she needs to see a doc.

Some good sources: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software) The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility.

Love it!!!!!!!!!!! Really I do. I have read it completely and still refer back to it. It is good for all women not just those ttc. My doctor recommended it to me after I had spent 10 months ttc. I wish I would have read it before we started ttc because I feel like most of those months are wasted. I seriously don't think you will regret buying. It is a book you can keep using for many years to come. Buy it!!!!!
